The Panellets are one of the most popular and traditional sweets of the Mediterranean coast. They are eaten on November 1, All Saints’ Day, in Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Valencia.
These little cupcakes, dating from the XVIII a.C., are presumed to be a recipe of the Arabic pastries. The panellets of San Marcos and panellets of the Santa Cruz were traditionally eaten with the family after religious celebration.
The panellets are made by an almond base that is mixed with sugar, eggs and lemon. The pine nuts that decorate the outside of the cupcake are adhered with the egg white. After that it’s baked and ready for eaten. They are found in most bakeries near our Bonavista Apartments.
