The Casa Vicens, the jewel of the Gracia neighborhood

In the quiet neighborhood of Gracia in Barcelona, you will find one of the most incredible and at the same time most unknown buildings that this city has, since it is not on the classic route of the city’s modernism.

The Casa Vicens is one of the first works of Antoni Gaudí. In 1883, the businessman Manuel Vicens contacted the young architect to build a summer residence, very common at that time, in the village of Gracia.
This building has a peculiar architectural style. Gaudí wanted to project Arab, Mudejar and Oriental influences, enriching it with the modernist style of the time and the architect.

The building is covered by white and green tiles, in addition to a floral ornament that covers the entire house. The street doors are forged with iron filaments widely used in modernism. The Casa Vicens was declared Unesco’s heritage in 2005.
