Josep Vilaseca built the Arc de Triomphe for the Universal Exhibition that was organized in 1888 in Barcelona. It is located on the Paseo Lluís Companys, next to the Ciutadella Park.
The structure of the monument is of a classical architectural style and the ornamentation as well as the decoration symbolize progress, adapting to the artistic and social context of the time. The arch was built in order to give a vision of modern Barcelona.
It is an architectural work that can be visited in several iconic cities around the world. The first known and still preserved is the Arc de Triomphe de Orange, in the south of France, dating from the 1st century AD. However, the Arc de Triomf of Barcelona is distinguished by its large dimensions, the amount of symbolism that can be seen in the monument, works by Josep Reynés, Josep Llimona and Antoni Vilanova, among others, and the reason for which it was built.
The area where the Arc de Triomf is located is pedestrian, allowing you to enjoy the monument and take photos with ease. It is a place frequented by skateboarders that give a cooler context for photographers who like the Street Photography style.
